Buried Culvert Dug Out to Fix a Drainage Problem

Culverts get buried over time. Dirt builds up, grass grows over them, and before long nobody even knows they're there - but the water sure does. When a culvert gets covered like that, it stops doing its job. Water backs up, finds its own path, and starts eating away at whatever is in its way.

That's exactly what we were dealing with here. The culvert had been buried long enough that it wasn't moving water at all. The surrounding area was showing the effects - uneven ground, potential for washouts, and a property that just didn't drain the way it should. This is the kind of thing that gets ignored for years until the damage becomes obvious.

We dug it out, got the pipe exposed and functional again, and set it up properly with rock surrounds so water has a clean path through. The grading work around it matters just as much as the culvert itself - if the ground isn't sloped right, you're still going to have problems. Getting both right is what actually solves the issue.

A working culvert protects your driveway, your yard, and the soil underneath everything. It's not a glamorous fix, but the erosion and washout damage it prevents is very real. Dirt and rock work like this is the kind of thing that saves property owners from much bigger headaches down the road.
